The Danish capital is undoubtedly a wonderful, colourful city, which blends wonderfully the old Palaces and buildings with the contemporary living. We walked through the city for 3 whole days and these are the best things we did and saw!
We really enjoyed a long walk staring from our hotel Absalon, passing from the amazing Ostedsparken and admired the wonderful neighborhood of Krusemyntegade. This place is so beautiful, full go packed houses in cute colors, nice doors and a very calm vibe.
If you search for a peaceful part go the city where life seems so calm, easy going and free, please take a walk at this neighborhood!!
What to say about the Kastellet, an extraordinary park and old fortress, Citadel of Frederikshavn, the oldest parts of which date from 1625. You will see the locals that take a break from their job or take their dogs walkies, you will meet the people who normally work there in their uniform and the tourists will try to walk around this small isle and take pictures at the impressive windmill!
Do not miss a visit at the most famous, but not the most impressive point of the city, the Little Mermaid, at the end of the port and of course pass by the Amalienborg palace, where we had the chance to see accidentally the gorgeous change of the guards. It is a beautiful ceremony! The soldiers of the Royal Guard with their bearskins and blue (on festive occasions red, white, and blue) uniforms are a unique symbol of the city.
We also loved the big TownHall Square which leads to the main pedestrian area, The Strogget shopping mile, with the shops and restaurants of the center, the small but so cute Grabrodretorv square with so many nice buildings, restaurants and cafes around.
Te city center is packed with people strolling around, having a cup of coffee at some sunny little place, it has some amazing boutiques and shopping centers, bars and restaurants, impressive buildings and of course it all leads to the most picturesque place, the one and only Νyhavn. The new port neibourhood, with the brightly painted gabled buildings line the canal, used to be a disreputable quarter of the city, but now, with its majestic feel, it is a particularly charming part of it that features in countless images of the city. You will sit to have a cold beer looking at the canals and you will spent a nice, relaxing time. No words can describe its beauty and its photogenic character and the crowds that meet there everyday, know that.
The city is perfect for wandering through at your leisure, or alternatively, make like a local and hop on a bike, the preferred mode of transport for many.
Last but not least, we had a very nice cruise around the canals of the city, with the Stromma Denmark boats, which lasted about an hour and we had the chance to see the city from another perspective. It’s highly recommended!!
