The Greek summer is the definition of : “you don’t need much to be happy”. Just go to some Cycladic island, stroll among its alleys and narrow streets, take a dive at the crystal clear waters of the Aegean, visit a windmill. You are happy now!….
Let’s see how you can spent your days at Serifos the best way. What I did for 3 awesome days.
SERIFOS a small rocky island at the west Cyclades is an iconic island for those who search authentic experiences. Α couple of villages, some really impressive beaches, good food and this is heaven!
Blue and white windows, colourful wooden doors, pristine waters and gold beaches. A blend of boho, modern vibes with a totally local atmosphere, where visitors really enjoy the Greek sun!
STAY
Choosing the Indigo Studios was such a blessing! Located at Livadi, the little port of the island, at a secluded garden, all studios offer generously all modern amenities, comfortable beds and sofas, a simple but stylish decor and your stay gets so amazing! We trully enjoyed being at such a spacious studio, with are own independent entrance, and living the island.
The hospitality of the owners is warm and friendly and they are always available for suggestions about the island. Our studio was large and airy, it had this huge terrace with views of the sea and I could literally spend every evening there, dining or enjoying a chilled beer. Our kitchen was fully equipped so we could prepare some breakfast or food, but we preferred to try some local tavernas and restaurants.
SWIM
Beach wise I really love the Ganema beach, because its golden sand is so awesome and its vibe is so relaxing. You can choose to be comfortable and served a coffee or whatever at the nearby beach bar or you can just be on your own under your umbrella, listening the waves’ sound and dreaming…..Tip: if you visit the beach before the beach bar is open, bring at least some water or drinks to remain hydrated!
My other favorite beach is Psilli Ammos (fine sand) and the sand here is really so fine. The water is amazing just like the sea colours from above, take a photo of the beach and then go down for great swimming or sunbathing. Tip: arrive early before the crowds and have lunch at the nearby taverna for the whole experience. The food is so good and homemade, try the local chickpeas and gemista for a complete mouth watering lunch!
Serifos is a beach paradise, it offers many beautiful beaches, just rent a scooter/car if you have arrived without your car, and explore them. Vagia, Livadakia, Agios Sostis, Sikamia are some of them! Beach hopping is a must!
EAT
Livadi is full of nice places with a variety of food, either you like to try local memes, meat or fish food, souvlaki, pastries, drinks or brunch, you will find everything here. Chora also has a variety of cute little eateries and bars, we at May when we visited the island, almost all of them hadn’t opened yet for the season.
We had a great dinner at Mpakakaki, which offers a variety of meats and delicious salads, also we tried the breakfast and dinner choices at Indigo cafe, with more contemporary dishes and choices which were really mouthwatering. Very good tavernas are all over the island, choose the place and enjoy it, I am sure you will not be disappointed. Serifos offers many local products and tastes, you can try some delicacies shopping at local shops for discovering new sweet spoons, marmalades or other delicious finds.
CHORA, LAST BUT BEST
Visiting Serifos is a totally incomplete experience if you miss visiting its Chora, maybe the most beautiful Chora of Cyclades, the one that welcomes you at the port if you just raise your eyes and look at it! The feelings you get when you arrive at the highest point of it at the Castle is unforgettable, especially the sunset time is an one of a kind experience. Having done that, you can return to its wonderful square, have a drink or whatever at Stratos kafeneion, see the traditional city hall, visit the church, spent some spacial time here.
Chora is an amazing blend of narrow streets, modern bars, small houses, little souvenir shops, eateries, white washed alleys and stairs, it is the place to have your morning coffee or read your book, and a wonderful dinner. Its traditional cycladic style is not affected by the tourism businesses or else, so every visitor can admire the old-fashioned houses and its long-standing windmills at the entrance. No words are enough for this beauty, just go!
USEFUL INFO: you can reach Serifos with normal ferry or the speed boat by Pireaus port or other islands. We travelled with Zante ferries and really enjoyed it. You can choose to reach Chora or some other locations by local bus, or rent a car in order to be independent.Since the trip was a May trip for just 3 days, we didn’t visit many places so not many interest points are mentioned, I prefer not to recommend or suggest non visited ones. Hope to return!!
