Once you book your tickets to this amazing safari destination you have always dreamed of, somewhere in Africa, there are some sort of preparation you should do.
Undoubtedly your local travel agent that will take you to safari at the parks, is going to send you a mail, with all the necessary things to bring with you! Us, having already lived this experience, at Kenya, have some advices to give you and a list of the indispensable things you will need!
•LIGHT CLOTHES IN THE APPROPRIATE COLOURS: at the lodges and during the safari games you are not advised to wear strong colours but rather neutral: beige, grey, light green, light shades in general. Also shorts are better to be used with anti repellent spray so you are safe. Take a swimsuit with you as many lodges have a pool, a light sweater for nights, some elegant cotton or linen dress or trousers, a nice shirt, light shocks and definitely comfy shoes! The proper safari hat is a must and you will find many of them to buy there!
•ANTI MALARIA PILLS: our National Health authorities and our doctor have prescribed us some pills to take one week before the trip and during our stay there. They don’t have any side affects, at least we didn’t have experienced any. Ask your doctor about it.
•SUN PROTECTION AND SUNGLASSES: take your high protection sunscreen cream with you, also some good sunglasses, and a lip balm.
•TOYS, CLOTHES, SCHOOL STAFF FOR CHILDREN: We will never forget the smile at the Masai children’s faces when we have given them some school staff we have brought them! They were so happy with the colorful pencils and the candies! It was such a joyful moment during the trip!! If you can, bring some toys or any little thing that could make the children happy!
•MEDICINE: your regular medicines and some pills for headache or allergies, are needed to be with you! Also a strong anti repellent spay is a MUST here. You should apply it at all non-covered areas of your body, especially after sunset!
•CAMERA: your photos will be your memories! At least some them! So take your favorite camera, but protect it from the dust and have a large memory card with you! You will need it!! Your mobile phone of course can make the job, and it’s easier to carry, my advice is do what makes you happier. If you want to enjoy the safari and relax, just do that!
•A NOTEBOOK OR DIARY: writing down the moments you spent here is almost necessary. This is an experience of a lifetime, take notes and describe your feelings about it! All the animals that you will see, the nature, the people will be with you when you return home!
•BE READY FOR A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE: you are in mama Africa! All is different! Be happy for this expression and ready to see with your eyes incredible things! Be polite with the people they serve you, leave some tips, listen to their advices, do not walk alone at the lights after sunset, follow the instructions of your guide and the people of the lodge. Try the local and international food of the restaurant, they cook it with love! Do not speak loud, especially during safari, it bothers the animals and they are wild animals. You are a guest at their home, so respect them!
We hope you have this experience at least once, you will fall in love!
